77-Year-Old Killed When Vehicle Rolls Over Him
The Las Vegas Metro Police Department is saddened to report a pedestrian fatality that happened in late January of 2023. According to reports, a 77-year-old man was in a residential driveway on a Sunday afternoon at around 1 P.M. He was inside his 1970 Chevy Monte Carlo, which was running, when he got out of the vehicle and stepped behind it. Suddenly, the vehicle rolled backwards without any driver inside. As you’d expect, this caused the man to get knocked to the ground.
Tragically, the vehicle continued going backwards and rolled over the man before dragging him a distance.
Unfortunately, the 77-year-old was declared deceased at the scene. Police are investigating the situation to determine what could’ve caused the car to go backwards. Authorities have stated they do not believe the man was impaired in any way, and it remains unclear whether he put the car in park or not.
Defective or Malfunctioning Parking Brakes
Did you know that the brakes in your car could fail? Unfortunately, when a parking brake malfunctions or is defective when it’s installed, the results can be disastrous and even fatal. In these cases, it’s in the family’s best interests to research whether or not the car manufacturer was negligent in installing, designing, or testing the brakes. If the company, manufacturer, or car designer was negligent, then you might have legal recourse.
When car companies create cars, they assume a legal duty to provide for their customers’ care. When you purchase a car, you expect the brakes to be safe. When they are found not to be safe, then that’s considered legal negligence per product liability laws in Nevada. If your loved one was fatally killed after an accident with a faulty product like defective brakes, then it’s possible to seek out a wrongful death lawsuit. These types of claims can help you recover from financial losses like burial costs, lost wages, a loss of support, and more.
