Police Officer Struck by Suspected Drunk Driver in Henderson
A police officer was injured on Tuesday, March 3, when he was in his patrol car completing an accident report for a crash, and subsequently struck by a suspected drunk driver, 8 News Now reported this week. The accident happened around 9 AM near the intersection of Green Valley Parkway and Sunset Road. A 27-year-old man who had been driving a Hyundai was arrested on suspicion of DUI, and other traffic-related offenses.
Following the collision, Green Valley Parkway was closed for more than 3 hours while Henderson police investigated the crash. The officer was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of his injuries. We wish him the best in his recovery.
Law Enforcement Injuries in Traffic Accidents
Just like good samaritans stopping to help, law enforcement officers are so vulnerable to serious injury from being struck at traffic stops and accident investigations. The leading cause of death for on-duty law enforcement personnel is not shooting or assault, but rather traffic accidents.
These scenarios are unfortunately a common occurrence. Especially tragic are completely preventable accidents such as this one where alcohol or drugs are suspected to be involved.
Officers often believe they can work directly with their department to resolve their injury claim, but this is not often the case. A claim may be transferred to an insurance adjuster whose job simply is to negotiate a settlement for as little as possible. Law enforcement officers who have been struck by vehicles on the job may be entitled to compensation.

What to Do Following a Car Accident
Following a car accident resulting in any injury, it is critical to first seek medical attention right away. This establishes a record of your injuries and the urgency of needing medical care. If you do not seek medical attention, your car accident claim will be missing an important and necessary element.
After getting medical attention, you need to notify your car insurance company of the accident, per the terms of your car insurance agreement. You don’t need to provide a recorded statement, and you should not admit fault or speculate what happened.
Finally, contact a skilled personal injury lawyer who can help you maximize your personal injury claim and recover the money you are entitled to for lost earnings, pain and suffering, and your medical bills. Las Vegas car accident lawyer Zachary D. Clayton offers accident victims a free consultation to help them and their families understand your legal rights and options to fight for compensation.
