Peloton Recalls 2 Million Bikes
These past few years have forced all of us to reconsider how we handle our health. Whether you were proactive about your health prior to the pandemic or not, when lockdowns hit, working out at home became much more popular.
Luckily for the growing brand Peloton, their products rose in popularity throughout the past few years. Peloton is a brand and a type of indoor-cycling bike. This traditional exercise equipment is paired with technological advancements that make it much more interactive, though. Users can use the touchscreen tablet to view video sessions that are available through a Peloton All-Access Membership.
Fitness instructors have recorded thousands of different classes that you can participate in. Even better, you’ll be participating virtually, so you can virtually interact with other people who are watching the same program, too.
Unfortunately, though, over 2 million of these Peloton bikes have recently been impacted by a recall. According to reports, these exercise bikes have a seat post that can break while individuals are using it. If the seat breaks during use, it poses a fall and injury hazard.
Reports say the recall impacts Peloton Bikes Model PL01 that were sold between January 2018 and May 2023. The affected models were sold for around $1,400 at Dick’s Sporting Goods stores and on Peloton’s website. These models were also sold online through Amazon.
The recall was initiated after Peloton received about 35 reports of the seat breaking and detaching while users were using the bikes as intended. Sadly, many of those reports also led to injuries. Among those injuries were lacerations, bruises, and at least one fractured wrist.
If you have an impacted Peloton bike, it’s advised that you stop using it immediately and contact Peloton for more information. Most units can be fixed with a free repair kit that can be self-installed. Peloton will send this kit to you.
Have You Been Injured by a Peloton?
While Peloton is offering some form of recourse for the defective bike parts, getting a new bike seat might not be that much help if you’ve already fallen and gotten injured by the part. If you got injured by a Peloton bike seat, then you should first seek out medical care for your injury. If your injuries aren’t that serious, then you might not need to take any further action.
If your injuries are substantial, however, then you might start to experience more financial losses. From medical bills to lost wages, it might be worth your time to start researching your legal options.
In general, when a consumer gets injured by a defective product, they can seek out compensation from the negligent product manufacturer. In other words, the person injured by the Peloton bike might have a legal claim for compensation if they experienced an injury from the defective seat.
