Liability for Drunk Driving Accident
Driving under the influence of alcohol in Nevada is a crime. The CDC has estimated that one in three traffic deaths in the United States involves a drunk driver. Although the number of DUI fatalities has gone down due to mass DUI awareness campaigns, there is still a major problem with people getting behind the while impaired. According to MADD, the number of drunk driving crash deaths occurring each year has been cut in half. Despite this, a person is injured in a drunk driving crash every two minutes. If the driver was indeed impaired by alcohol or drugs at the time of the collision, he may face criminal charges for drunk driving. Additionally, he may be liable for the victim’s wrongful death in a civil lawsuit. Damages available may include final medical expenses, leading up to the victim’s death, funeral and burial expenses, and loss of love and companionship.
Drunk driving crashes are always heartbreaking because they are preventable. Before you accept any compensation offered for injuries or death in a drunk driving crash, talk to a knowledgeable and experienced attorney. You may be entitled to far more compensation than is initially offered.
