Las Vegas Pedestrian Accident Injuries
Pedestrians are so vulnerable when they are hit by a car. As we see so often, they have zero protection when they are struck by a vehicle and sadly, life-changing and permanently disabling injuries are common occurrences. Some of the injuries we see in Las Vegas pedestrian accidents include:
Internal injuries: Organ damage such as spleen damage, liver damage, kidney damage, punctured lungs and broken ribs are all examples of internal injuries that can be caused by blunt trauma.
Head injuries: A concussion or traumatic brain injury is a huge concern anytime a pedestrian is struck by a car. The victim may or may not lose consciousness.
Spinal cord Injuries: Injury to the spinal cord can result in paralysis or death, necessitating lifelong, around-the-clock care.
Broken bones: Serious bone breaks including compound fractures can be extremely painful and require surgical repair or even amputation and lengthy rehabilitation. Because substantial forces are required to break bones, bone fractures are also often accompanied with damage to blood vessels, ligaments and muscles.
Lacerations: Lacerations are not always surface wounds that easily heal. Along with cuts and skin damage a pedestrian accident victim may also suffer damage to tendons or muscles. As the injury heals, they may experience weakness and scarring, while being at high risk for infection.
Contusions and Bruising: The blunt force of a vehicle striking an unprotected pedestrian can cause serious bruising from bleeding beneath the skin. These can be difficult to see. In other words, no injury on the outside does not mean no injury on the inside.
Wrongful Death: Pedestrians are 1.5 times more likely to be killed in a collision than an occupant of a vehicle. Wrongful death laws allow surviving family members to pursue a claim for final medical expenses, funeral and burial costs, lost earnings the victim would have earned over their lifetime, and loss of love and companionship.
