Motorcyclist Critically Injured in June 5 Crash Near McCarran Airport
Las Vegas Metropolitan Police reported a motorcyclist suffered “critical” injuries in the early morning of Friday, June 5th in a crash near Sunset and Paradise, Fox 5 KVVU-TV reported. Very few details were available about the collision, which involved one other vehicle and occurred around 5:45 AM.
The motorcyclist was taken to a hospital. Sunset Road was closed from Bermuda to Paradise, while LVMPD investigated the accident.
Common Causes of Motorcycle Accidents
It is not clear what happened in this June 5th crash, so it is impossible to have an understanding of why this accident may have occurred. One of the most frequent reasons motorcycle accidents happen is because other drivers simply fail to look for, and consequently see, the motorcyclist on the road. This could be due to driver distraction or driving too fast.
Some accidents result from a motorist driving under the alcohol or drugs, or falling asleep at the wheel. Another common scenario is a car turning left onto another street or driveway and a driver not seeing a motorcyclist or failing to judge the speed at which the motorcycle is approaching.
Recovering Compensation in a Personal Injury or Wrongful Death Claim
Motorcyclists are extremely vulnerable to serious injury or death in any collision. According to the Nevada Department of Transportation, about 80% of all motorcycle accidents involve injury, whereas under 40% of accidents involving sedans result in injury. If you’ve been injured in a motorcycle crash in Nevada, and it was caused by another driver, you may have legal rights to compensation.
If a driver was operating their vehicle negligently and caused a crash, the injured victim may be entitled to compensation for medical bills, lost earnings, pain and suffering, and other related expenses. If the accident resulted in the death of a loved one, surviving family members may be entitled to compensation in a wrongful death claim.
Although no amount of money can bring back a loved one after a devastating loss, a wrongful death settlement can cover final medical expenses, lost earnings the decedent would have earned over the course of their lifetime, and funeral and burial expenses. Family members may also recover for “grief or sorrow, loss of probable support, companionship, society, comfort and consortium.”
What to Do Following a Motorcycle Accident
If you or a loved one is involved in a collision with another vehicle, you should contact an experienced and knowledgeable personal injury lawyer as soon as possible, after you have sought medical attention. A lawyer can help you understand your legal rights, and if you are entitled to compensation in a motorcycle accident personal injury claim.
