Las Vegas Downtown Pedestrian Safety Measures Starting Construction This Month
The first phase of the downtown Las Vegas pedestrian safety measures are beginning construction starting September 8th, reports KTNV13. After many years of dealing with pedestrian injuries and accidents due to the inherent busyness of the downtown area, the city of Las Vegas has finally responded by beginning construction on safer pedestrian walkways to help to mitigate accidents and deaths along the Strip.
Pedestrian deaths are nothing new to those who live and work in Las Vegas, but the danger has only increased in recent years. In 2016 and 2017, for instance, Clark County accounted for over 80% of pedestrian fatalities in Nevada. Many of the streets in Las Vegas were built decades ago and no longer comply with safety and ADA regulations, making them even more dangerous for pedestrians using wheelchairs, walkers, and other walking aids.
Thankfully, the city will finally break ground on correcting this issue in the future, but much work needs to be done. Drunk driving is rampant in Las Vegas, and this can lead to pedestrian accidents, hit and runs, and even death.
What To Do If You’re Hit By a Vehicle
Being struck by a vehicle is traumatic, whether you are seriously injured or not, and can leave a lasting impact upon both your body and your psyche. While it’s important that the city of Las Vegas does more to protect pedestrians, traffic accidents are just a way of life. In the car-obsessed culture we live in, there’s just no way to avoid these types of incidents completely.
If you have been hit by a vehicle, it’s important that the person responsible pays for their crime, as well as the monetary and physical distress it has caused you. In personal injury cases, victims are able to recover damages that will help to cover large medical bills, lost time at work, and emotional issues like PTSD that may occur due to a traumatic accident. After a car or pedestrian accident, it’s vital to get in touch with a personal injury lawyer who will help you in getting your life back to normal.
