Hit and Run Leaves 1 Dead and 1 Injured
A tragic accident occurred on the morning of Thursday, July 30th–the driver of a Toyota 4-Runner slammed into the side of a Hyundai Elantra at the intersection of Decatur and Carmen boulevards, leaving the driver of the Elantra dead and a passenger in the Toyota injured.
The driver fled on foot from the scene of the crash, and at this time Las Vegas Police are asking for help in finding the suspect. Anyone with information is encouraged to call Crimestoppers to report your tip, according to Fox 5 News.
Unfortunately, hit and runs are far too common here in Las Vegas. Inebriated drivers are often the cause, or those with prior charges that will send them straight to jail choose to flee the scene rather than do their civic duty in making sure that those they hit don’t need medical care. If you’ve been involved in a hit and run, you know exactly how devastating it can be to deal with the catastrophic injuries that can occur with little hope for justice.
However, when the culprit can be found, it’s important to file a personal injury suit as soon as possible in order to cover your damages, medical bills, and time lost from your job. If a wrongful and tragic death happens due to a hit and run, it’s important that both criminal and civil justice is pursued in order to compensate the victim’s family emotionally and financially.
When the criminal justice system does not provide justice, however, a personal injury lawsuit can also help to fill that role instead. Justice comes in many different forms to different people, but financial compensation can be a boon to just about anyone who has been the victim of a hit and run.
Next Steps for Victims of a Hit and Run
Las Vegas can be a dangerous city, both as a pedestrian and as a driver, and sometimes taking precautions with your own driving won’t be enough. If you’ve been involved in a hit and run, it’s important to begin gathering evidence immediately (provided you are not gravely injured or unable to walk). Taking photos of the scene, even without the other driver present, can provide initial evidence for investigators to help find the perpetrator.
If you can remember the license number of the person involved, write it down immediately so you do not forget. Chances are you’ll be a little too dazed to remember correctly, but it’s smart to write down even a partial plate identifier if that’s all you can recall.
If you are in need of medical care, call an ambulance as soon as you are able and keep every bit of paperwork in order to begin collecting evidence of necessary medical bills. Even if you do not feel an injury until the next day due to shock, take steps to get evidence of your condition by going to a doctor and ensuring you are not in more danger due to your injuries.
