Las Vegas police are saddened to report that a pedestrian was struck by a car and killed early on Monday, April 24th. According to reports, the fatal hit-and-run accident happened at around 3:45 A.M. Reports suggest that the pedestrian went out into the middle of Maryland Parkway just north of Sunrise Hospital Drive and laid down in the middle of the road.
Despite the early hour, several vehicles were traversing the roadway at the time. Eyewitnesses say that multiple vehicles attempted to avoid the pedestrian. Unfortunately, one vehicle, a blue Dodge Charger with black racing stripes, was traveling southbound and did not attempt to avoid the pedestrian.
The 38-year-old pedestrian, a Las Vegas resident, was rushed to the nearby Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center. The driver of the vehicle reportedly continued to drive away, and police have not yet located the suspect. The pedestrian sadly passed away at the hospital. Police are still investigating what happened and what caused the pedestrian to start lying in the street.
Your Legal Options After a Hit-and-Run Accident
Hit-and-run accidents, especially ones involving pedestrians, often lead to either substantial or fatal injuries for the victim. When that happens, the victim or the loved ones of the injured person usually have to deal with a sudden windfall of financial losses. These losses usually include medical bills, lost wages, and more.
When the injuries are fatal, then the surviving relatives often have to bear the costs of the funeral, burial costs, a loss of financial support from their loved one, and the impactful grief of suddenly losing their loved one.
The good news is that there could potentially be legal recourse for you if you’re a surviving loved one of someone fatally killed in a pedestrian accident or if you were injured in a pedestrian accident. If someone else’s negligence caused or contributed to the accident, then you might be able to file a civil claim against the negligent party to obtain the compensation you need to cover your financial losses.
