A pedestrian was critically injured early Thursday morning in south Las Vegas, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported. The October 29th pedestrian accident was reported at the intersection of West Sunset Road and South Valley View Boulevard at 4:36 a.m. The pedestrian, who was not identified, was taken to a hospital with very serious injuries.
According to the news report, the truck that hit the pedestrian had a U.S. Postal Service logo. No further information was available.
Cause of the Accident
News outlets provided only limited details of the pedestrian accident, and it is unclear what happened specifically. Pedestrians are extremely vulnerable during early morning hours when visibility is limited. During the night, drivers are often not looking for pedestrians, and do not expect them to be on the road.
It is unclear if the pedestrian was in a crosswalk when struck, or if this collision could have been avoided. If the driver was distracted, fatigued, under the influence, or operating their vehicle negligently, they may be liable for the victim’s injuries.
Common Injuries in Las Vegas Injury Accidents
Pedestrians have no protection when they are struck by a car, and may suffer catastrophic injuries like traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, and multiple bone fractures. These accidents may be extremely serious, causing lengthy hospitalization, extensive rehabilitation periods, and may even lead to death. People injured in pedestrian accidents may be unable to walk or return to work. The medical expenses and impact on one’s ability to work may cause financial devastation.
Potential Liability for a Postal Truck Accident
People injured due to the negligence of motor vehicle drivers may be entitled to financial compensation for their injuries. If you are injured in an accident with a U.S. mail truck, and the driver was at fault, your claim will be against the federal government. This is a complicated type of personal injury claim with strict procedural requirements, including filing Form 95.
This is the first step of a claim against the U.S. government, and it carries great legal significance. Having a knowledgeable and experienced attorney to help you file your claim is necessary. Without a lawyer, you may receive little or no financial compensation.
Why You Need a Skilled Las Vegas Pedestrian Accident Attorney
The Federal Tort Claims Act (FTCA) Process is different from a standard personal injury claim that is negotiated with a car insurance company. Any misstep in your FTCA claim can put your claim in jeopardy. It is important to work with a lawyer who understands and has experience handling federal claims. Time is extremely critical following an accident where a government agency may be responsible.
